After having an out-of-body experience at the age of fourteen, I became interested in parapsychology and philosophy, despite remaining opposed to faith. I eventually discovered the Athanasia Foundation, an organization dedicated to the parapsychological and philosophical study of personal survival after death, personal reincarnation, and the personal evolution of the soul. Titus Rivas, head of the Athanasia Foundation, has shown that for many cases of near-death experiences and past-life memories in young children, the evidence supports a survivalist interpretation. He's also developed a simple, overall philosophy called libertarian spirituality, which places emphasis on the interests of individuals and their relations with other individuals, rather than authoritarian deities or an impersonal collective. It affirms the values of solidarity, freedom, personal love, pleasure, and tolerance.
Based upon the research and conclusions of the Athanasia Foundation, as well as the numerous other parapsychological organizations in existence, there's no room for doubt about personal immortality and reincarnation. Unfortunately, the mainstream scientific community has thus far refused to acknowledge the overwhelming evidence that these organizations have collected. This is due to the fact that many scientists cling to materialism, a dogma which denies a priori the existence of nonphysical entities. As a result, they immediately rule out survivalist interpretations of near-death experiences and past-life memories in young children. Luckily, there's a growing number of scientists who recognize the validity of parapsychology.
It's safe to say that every soul must have a beginning; it's inconceivable for us to have always existed. Even as we speak, the earth's population is increasing, which proves that new souls are being created all the time. Of course, we also die, usually to be reborn. In between each life, as well as during near-death experiences, we enter a reality that's capable of being sculpted by the imagination, much like a lucid dream. It's for this reason that people who've had near-death experiences or memories of the stage between lives often report traveling to worlds that are based upon their own fantasies or religious beliefs. As a result, skeptics might be tempted to regard such cases as nothing more than delusions. However, there have been several cases in which people have acquired accurate, verifiable information while in these other worlds, thereby proving them to be real. Considering the desirability of such an existence, one has to wonder what purpose reincarnation serves.
From the first moments of our lives, we're faced with basic feelings of pain, which we're compelled to reduce. In doing so, we also encounter basic feelings of pleasure, which we want to increase. Of course, each of us encounters different struggles along the way. In the process of overcoming these struggles, we each develop our own unique preferences. In turn, our preferences form the foundations of our interests, which cause us to desire specific people and things, at various frequencies and intensities. However, without enough interests, we'd get bored too easily. Therefore, we must endure several lives before we're able to fully enjoy the afterlife.
